The only way to know for sure is to consult with one of our hormone specialists who will do a complete medical evaluation and blood work up. Request an appointment below to learn more.
It is bio-identical hormone replacement therapy or BHRT. Basically, you take hormone your body doesn’t produce enough of. The term “bio-identical” means the hormones are chemically identical to those your body produces. Bio-identical hormones are derived from plants and possess the exact hormonal structure of the human hormones estradiol and testosterone.
Watch as a Physician Assistant from Trilogy Medical Center performs a Hormone Pellet Therapy procedure.
Patients will first sit down with our in-house Physicians Assistant who will determine the level of hormone needed. This is determined by a thorough evaluation of a number of health factors including health history and symptoms on a patient by patient basis. The bio-identical hormone pellet is then placed under the skin of the upper buttocks. The pellet releases a steady dose over a period of time.
The length of time ranges from 4-5 months depending on the dose given. A thorough panel of blood work is done before and periodically after the pellet is inserted to ensure the proper levels are delivered and if more are needed.
The hormone replacement pellet therapy procedure is quick, easy and relatively comfortable and benefits both men and women.
As we age, our bodies produce less hormones than we need to feel energetic and youthful. If we can replace the hormone levels that have dropped, the theory is that we can feel better in every way. If you have experienced any of the following symptoms, pellet therapy may be right for you:
Any type of hormone replacement therapy can have side effects. However, our doctors will work with you to eliminate these as much as possible. Short term side effects can include headaches, irritability, mood swings, acne, and difficulty sleeping. In women, hormone therapy can increase the chance of gallbladder disease, blood clots, and stroke. Some studies have shown that hormones taken over long periods of time can increase the chance of developing cancer.
After inserting the pellet, we suggest avoiding strenuous activities and swimming for a week. Walks are fine to take, as are showers.
The pellet slowly dissolves as the hormones are absorbed. Nothing is left behind.
The pellet delivers hormones consistently throughout the day. Pills and creams can create a rollercoaster effect as hormones are taken only once a day and then wear off. Then you take more. Another benefit is you don’t have to worry about missing doses. You don’t have to manage short-term hormone therapies like the patch. With the pellet, you would only need to reinsert it 2-3 times a year.
Hormone Pellet Therapy is a safe and effective option for men and women who suffer from various symptoms such as low sex drive, mood changes, chronic fatigue, hot flashes, depression and more. There have been studies done to confirm that it is safe. However, it is important to remember that it is not for everyone.
Patients who use drugs and alcohol may not be able to get this procedure. People who have a medical condition may also not be able to get this treatment. Let your healthcare provider know if you have a serious medical condition.
